“Courage is the power to let go of the familiar.”
With individual therapy, the client and therapist meet one-on-one for about 45 minutes to an hour on a weekly or biweekly basis. The amount of time spent in therapy depends on the needs of the client, as well as their personal goals. During that time, the therapist helps the client explore their feelings, work through life challenges, identify any changes they wish to see in their lives or themselves, and helps them set goals to work towards these changes.
This type of therapy involves two people who are looking for ways to resolve difficulties in their intimate relationship. The couple may be dating, partnered, engaged, or married. During counseling sessions, the therapist meets with the couple to identify and discuss the conflicts and/or aspects of their relationship that they wish to change and helps them find the best ways to communicate their feelings while maintaining a healthy, loving relationship.
In group counseling, a therapist meets with several clients experiencing similar problems in a group setting. One benefit of group therapy is it can help decrease feelings of shame and isolation about a problem while getting the support needed from both the therapist and other group members. Group therapy is currently only available for our substance abuse and addiction counseling services; however, others may be added based on demand.
A special form of group therapy, our approach to family counseling is based on a method known as the family systems approach. With this method, the family is viewed as an organized system in which each individual is a contributing member who impacts the behavior within the system. Each member of the family influences and is influenced by the others, so the goal of this approach is to enhance the growth of each family member and the family as a whole.
